I'll bet a carton of vb that when she farts it sounds like a well tuned small block saito getting quickly throttled up.The prop shaft extension is interesting to me too.

I'm trying to chase down an article on them but I would like to know more about prop shaft extensions if any one has had experience etc.
In F4C scale you get bonus points if the engine is totally buried inside the cowl.

Fox still make and sell one for their engines. I had one on my old Fox 75 a long time ago. Ido not remember having any problems with it. Now however I would imagen one would have to turn their own on a lay. I have considered doing this from time to time for the same reason you mentioned.

Hmm, for info I have seen an adaptor to convert the multu screw prop attachment for DLE engines to a single prop shaft, Brian Winch reviewed in the latest Airborne and it would appear to have a degree of merit and easing of the hip pocket nerve

Does anybody happens to know where to buy a starter stand. Or the measures so it can be custommade? There is a flying club in my town that does not have any. It is a pain to start a 60 plane from the floor, epecially if you are alone

See the link below and look at post #10 to find another design for a starting bench. Click on the “attachment.pdf” link to see the plans and instructions for the bench.
There are also some photos of a “portable stand” on post #20.
Let me know if you have any comments, questions or problems.

yes its a 182t i pick it up after a friend had a mid air with it and broke the exhaust port out of one cylinder. i put a new cylinder on. by the way this engine has 5 or 6 flights on it so i figured i would only have to put one cylinder on. if you think it would work, i would like to put it in a hanger 9 cap 232.

If it's the engine manual that you're looking for, try this....
http://www.horizonhobby.com/ProdInfo...oke_Manual.pdf
.... and in keeping with the Club Saito spirit, I accidentally saw a box that said Horizon Hobby on it that was all wrapped up in a big brown truck... Hmmm, I wonder what that might be????? Totally unexpected...

Jim, I got a real bad case of enginitis today in spite of the bone aching temperature and humidity. I unboxed my FA .40 and bolted on a MA K-12x5, filled the test stand tank with WildCat 2/4 15% fuel and fired it up. After about 20 minutes of just running it midrange I peaked it at 9,600 rpm which wandered up and down a little. One click rich put it at 9,525 rock steady. It originally came with a curved pipe and no muffler with the pressure tap near the end of the pipe. Today I ran it with a 90 degree pipe and the long skinny muffler off my old .50. I'll post a pic in a little while.

It took me about 2 minutes to get the engine back in my shop and it was only warm to the touch by then. Note little mod I did to get the .40 to work on my RCM 40 plane, with the intake stock it couldn't get any air as it has to sit tight against the firewall. I need some other suitable 40 sized plane for it.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
A friend had a Saito 45 on a old RC assited free flight plane for several years.
He removed the 45 and replaced it with a 40a using the same 11 X 6, The 40A turned the prop faster he says.

Try radiusing (bell-mouth) the inlet, I did the same thing you did on a 45 with a 65 cam. I had milled the case mill 0.55mm to up the CR and lightened the piston. The radiused carb inlet helped a little with stability and transition. The little 45 flew the Nosen Citabria great on a wide blade 11x7
These old Saitos were great engines to rework(Hot rod)!

Dave, you need to blow a couple Grand on a Superflow SF-60 Computerized Flowbench, machine a fixture that will accept the FA-40 carburetor and do some research and development. Try 14 degrees included angle. Pick up a CNC milling machine and the software necessary to generate 3D tool paths, tool-up and mill the Heck out of the little carburetor.
OR....use it as you've already modified it and enjoy your model airplane engine.....

My hot rodded 45 was a lot of fun using some stock Saito parts and some well thought out, yet simple swipes with the mill. No need for any of that CNC crap. A manual Sherline will do just fine, thank you! No need to gold plate the trash heap! Simple if often the best!
All the best,
Konrad
