RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video

I only flew the model once with flap only. I do not recall how slow I flew it on the maiden. I put the crow in because I didn't care for the nose down attitude the airplane assumed with the flaps....

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video

I agree. I find it interesting how many people are having issues with the model stalling. Mine is about as heavy as they come as I have every tank imaginable, smoke, and the monster battery...

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video

Load Factor is the ratio of Lift to Weight. Essentially it is a G-Force. So in straight and level unaccelrated flight the load factor is +1. So if the weight goes up the lift needs to be...

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video

To expand:

Stalling is a component of reaching the critical AOA (Angle of Attack). AOA is increased with a forward CG because the increased distance between the center of pressure (lift) and...

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video

I'm writing from my phone so I'll give you the Cliff's Notes version and update it once I get to a computer.

You are correct. Weight affects stall speed. Your CG is in front on your center...

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video

One of the benefits of having an aft CG is a lower stall speed so that would make sense.

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video

True. Plus, in theory, having the ailerons come up a small amount you are effectively changing the camber of the wing from the aileron out and in a stick nuetral state reducing the AOA at the tip...

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video

The nose pitches up because of the increased lift due to the increased AOA. That's why it requires down trim.

Believe it or not we are basically on the same page. ;)

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video

You really aren't adding drag by using crow. You are just achieving the drag differently. Two airplanes cruising around with the same power setting and speed have equal drag regardless of CROW or...

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video

Exactly! A good landing starts WAY before the flare. Just as with full scale a stablized approach will make your consistant and reduces the risk of surprises.

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video

TUMBLER,

I would double check your CG and try crow. I tried the 4" flap and then switched to crow and felt, for me anyway, that the crow was much better. Here is a video of my 2nd flight. ...

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video

Aren't P-100's running $2600? Why not get a K-140F for $2450.00. You save a $150 and get around 50% more thrust. If you want to save gas you can still dial the engine back. Either way if you...

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video

Agree completely. I have gone to the crow setup and I REALLY like it. Plus it give the airplane a more "normal" pitch attitude. Didn't feel like I was "dragging" it in as much.

Now I have to figure out why I am getting so much air loss on the initial...

Thanks!

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video

Hey Dave,

I have my throws set to your setup that you posted earlier in this thread. Are you running and flight modes or dual rates?

Thanks!
