I had a 1971 Cotton 170 Enduro, does that get me in the club ? LOL
mine had a better seat than what is in the photo. it had more power than the other brand 175 my friends had, notice the speedometer down by the front tire. it didn't stay there long.

I got my name that way to low and to slow and down wind. lol
well I took it out and the Saito 180HC ran great but the battery for the plane was bad or under charged.
I will try again tonight

Of course ! The Cotton is a very old brand with good history. IIRC, that model had a Villiers made engine.
You are now an honorable member.

BTW, truth be told, we like all motorcycles.

actually Gary, the bike in the photo, as mine did too, has a Minarelli engine, also, if you search enough you will find that Cotton set a record at the Island of Man. I believe it was a 250 class, not sure, and, it was Cotton that designed the V shaped frame, as I believe I read that frame was patented.

yes, some of the Cotton road bikes were really classy lookers,

I started on a Honda Trail 70, moved on to a Susuki RM80, then a Bultaco Lobito 125, then a Yamaha YZ125. After my short military career I bought an 82 Honda 900 Supersport Crate Bike and almost got killed by an old lady in a Cutlass. End of street riding. I still have an old 99 Honda XR250R that I regularly try to kill myself on but so far no joy.

I'm not sure what kind of club that puts me in but then I really couldn't care less.

My bike when I was younger was a 1974 Yamaha RD200 Electric street bike. The 2 cycle twin cylinder engine gave it a lot of power and it was a fun little street bike. I wish I had a picture of my best friend Kenny and I riding it together. Ken was 6'8" and 290 lbs and I was 6' even and 150 lbs. We bottomed out the shocks on the smallest of bumps and the front wheel got a bit light but the 200 cc (actual displacement I believe was around 184 cc) motor didn't care. Mine looked like this one until I added a white aftermarket fairing with built in headlight and front turn signals. The guy at the bike shop made the brackets for me and it fit like a glove.

My dream bike was always a Vincent black prince.

Ah yes, the Vincent. I found a Vincent Black Shadow for a friend. It was about 10 miles from here. All the frame and body work was done but apart. The engine and trans were all as found but needed going thru. The price in 1974 was $800! He was a very good friend and we traded a lot of hard to find stuff back and forth. Ever heard of a Druine Supercharger for Norton Commandos? He gave me one!
Anyhow, he came down with a brain tumor and passed away before the bike was done.

My dream bikes were a few. The Brough Superior as riden by T E Lawrence ( of Arabia)
The other is the Matchless Silver Hawk V-4.
A Norton Manx or Matchless G-50. Would do too! All said though I feel very fortunate to have owned and revived over 75 Britbike basket cases. They have all been very rewarding and educational.

Much like the Enya, YS and Saito four strokes.

Gentlemen, we need to Air Pull our way back to Saito's please. Thankyou

I am way behinder on important stuff, I had to till the garden and plant a tree and mow already.
You guys talked about a 1.80 a few posts back, I have one I need to run and then figure out a plane for it. Cap passed it on to me, it has arm bending compression, probably normal for it. I never owned a 1.80 before. The new 100 is still in the PSP ready for a re-run.

Mike, do you know the compression ratio of your 1.80, Thanks, Dave

Hey Vincents are on topic they are the Saitos of the bike world! $800 for a Black Shadow! I hope he bought it, finished it, and still owns it. He could retire off the proceeds if he sold it today!

Now I have a terrible story to tell. The Saito .80 I recently acquired thanks to a certain RCU angel is missing. I had on the work bench waiting for me to make some time to mount it on the Cub and it has disappeared! I have torn the place a part and I still can't find it. How can someone lose a black and gold box, you would think it would stand out like a neon sign? I am totally bummed out right now!

That is indeed a bummer, the 80 is a real winner as engines go.

I am trying to convince myself I just put it someplace for safe keeping and it will show up eventually but...

Default Modded 82 update

Fired up the 82 that I modded for 11.75:1 compression last year. This engine also has a Gary custom muffler and a 100 carb. I finally got the new ring broke in fully and everything went to crap. The engine was fussy on the needles, rpm wandering all over and running overly rich in the mid range. Swapped out the plug with new and no joy. Swapped out the 100 carb for the original 82 carb and all is good again!

Once the ring broke in fully the engine didn't need or want all the extra fuel supplied by the 100 carb I guess.

With 15% nitro this engine has a very wide window of adjustment on the hsn. It's probably borderline over compressed on 15%. Even though I can't hear any predetonation or see any deformation of the plug element it sure is acting that way. I may go ahead and shim the cylinder up .005" as I mentioned last year.

APC 13x8
9650 peak
2000 idle

APC 14x6 (sport)
9450 peak
1900 idle

APC 14x6 (pattern)
9750 peak
1900 idle

That "safe keeping" place is a real killer, it causes and awe s##t when you find what you lost.

The problem is the safe keeping is usually works to keep it safe from yourself!

yup
i was going through boxes the other night and found a pumped 120 duel plug and I thought were did this come from. Then it hit me Thanks again Dave!!!
the competition on the 180 calculated by senior Tele master I believe was 15 to 1 I can’t quote you on that at all though
i sounds great with the straight pipe from Gary. I wonder if I said” hey Gary could I get a couple more please”. If it would happen. Thanks

Not sure if I have one left. Will look but I may have sent the last to Dave. I did stumble across one of the Saito pepper shaker mufflers and that is going into the flat rate box that I am stuffing to send over to Dave. Right now, there are some excellent matching magazines getting added. Along with some big block exhaust bits as they turn up. Stay tuned .
( We could sure have a good time if you ever got that ham license!)

Crunch, I will have a look, may have to make a couple!

BTW Okie,

I may have been confusing when telling about the Vincent. No, Jim passed away before he had time to finish. Jim was a great friend, best machinist I have ever known.
I of course am not a machinist but I sure appreciate the good ones.
Really miss Jim, he was barely 30 when he passed away. We made a lot of motorcycles run in the few years we knew each other.
