I assume the are glow style plugs. All glow plugs run at 1.2-1.5 volts. They also require in the neighborhood of 1.5 amps each so you need a pretty healthy battery.

Not in the sense of goes "bad". If you kept it sealed up well then it should be fine. I have burned 20 year old fuel cans that were well sealed but I did mix it with fresh to insure quality.

Technically it should work just fine. To move up to a three blade you need to bump one catagory or the other down one step, so, moving from a 22 to a 20 should do it.
