It protects against a CP lock-up, which has happened, albeit they occurred with earlier CP s/w. I believe it would be still good insurance even now to have a path independent of the CP.

Yes - TM becomes available via RX2. You do lose the ability to see the CB200 in Device Explorer though. You have to bypass the gyro completely to set up the CB200 first.
