Make sure you're using the large fuel tubing sounds like you're not getting enough fuel may have to open the needle valve a little bit more until it runs very rich then start leaning it out

I use Electro Dynamics battery, with EDR onboard glow, the 10,000 ma. Sub C battery, got two of them together on my 9 cylinder keeps glow plugs lit for 55 min. Continuously.

Compression

They make a gauge that measures pressure, and there is a fitting that screws into the glow plug threads, open carb and turn over by hand till the needle stops, gives you the reading, pretty handy.

Compression is definitely higher on the lower two cylinders I'm guessing because of the oil??

I also did a compression check on all of the cylinders the lowest compression was 125 to 128 on a couple cyl.s some were 140 and higher, bearings still seem smooth.
