RE: T-28 Dave Platt
Thanks guys, Wix is free if you know how to build a web site. Larry I used the ST2500 for my first T-28 at that time around 1999 -2000 many guys were having problems with the ST2000 I can't remember what the problem was.

lkahn4,
Concerning the ST2000, and most large displacement ST's; they run best on 0-5% nitro. Many will attempt to operate them on 15% and more, but they do not like it. Not sure of the weight of the T-28 once complete, but Maser and I finished up a 1/5 scale Mustang once, installed my ST G-4500 and we were not pleased with the performance or the end results[]. I should have purchased a 50cc gas as my friend had recommended.

The other issue with the big Super Tigre's (at least the older ones, ST2000,2500,3000) was that they will overheat rapidly if you are using too much oil in your fuel. I generally ran 10% nitro and nothing over 12% oil content and was very happy with all my big ST engines. Most of what can be purchased at your local hobby store will be 16-18% oil content which is too much. Please be aware that I have not run any of the newer big bore ST's, ie, the 2300, 3250, and 4500 so I don't know if this holds true for those engines or not.

Okay guys,
Thanks for the input, I am guessing I will go with an OS 35CC gas engine since Dave was so kind as to include drawings for gas.
As soon as I get the flaps epoxied and the ailerons setup I will order the light kit and then try and figure out how to install in the wing tips
Thanks again for all the input

Good choice Larry!
Chad,
thanks for the reminder. Maser and I were talking today about another friend of ours who had a ST2300 on his giant scale TF F4U and it appeared to overheat, started losing power, and he attempted to fly straight to the runway across the field but it died before he made it.
It was not a total loss and did fly great later with a DLE-55 and is still flying today.

Chad you and WARBIRDRCER have jogged my memory. I do now remember the warnings on the oil and nitro for the large Super tigers. I had no problems with the Engine early on but after 4 or 5 years of flying other models I used the T-28 again for the 2007 Gun smoke competition and totally forgot the warning and the engine overheated and set up on the second round .

I also heard an inverted ST3000 would not start well....so he 'adjusted' the engine so the plug wasn't straight down and then it started easily....I guess the fuel was drowning the plug.

I ran into this issue as well on inverted installations mainly because the big ST's loved to be flooded before they would start. Once the engine was running it was fine but getting it started could be an issue. When all the stars were in line properly, and if you held your mouth just right, all that was needed to get them running was to flip the prop backwards against compression though. A neat trick when it worked!

Hey Gang
It's been awhile but finally have the flaps attached and working, a tad harder than I thought it would be.
As soon as I get back from Az I will start on the ailerons and hopefully be able to start sheeting while getting some flying in.
We are doing some mods on the Avenger and hope to have it ready to fly the 1st weekend in July.
Boyd, glad you made out okay in the tornado, please tell Noah I was checking on him.
Pix to follow

RE: T-28 Dave Platt
Need some help before I spend too much time in the details of this very interesting but extensive thread. I just picked up a Dave Platt T-28 B kit, 65" wingspan the label on the box says kit RC-2. Wondering what scale this is and if it coincides with the info contained in this thread to assist me in my planning and building. Appreciate any direction. Thanks

RE: T-28 Dave Platt
Not sure but it sounds like his Pica kit, where did you get it.
Did you try googling Pica Models, that was the company he owned and the RC2 might have been his kit number
