Default E Z Arf Models

Many years ago (20 plus) a company I recall as OK Model Mfg. marketed a EZ series of ARFs. They were very nice looking and were covered over balsa with some sort of thin foam and a colorful skin. A couple I remember were a Dago Red and a P-51 Mustang in military colors. I think there were many others. I have not seen or heard of any for a long time. Does anyone know if they are still available or has the company gone away?

My buddy has an EZ Focke Wulf with an OS61SF and retracts that he flies weekly. He does a great warbird aerobatic routine with it. A friend gave it to him and it's on a third set of tires!
A friend has given me a warbird EZ Mustang with a Siato 91 and retracts. I haven't taken possession of it yet but it is going to be fun. I think he has a Dago Red in the box, of course I'll be trying to get that from him...
They have thin wings and are not too heavy but have relatively high wing loadings, they are pretty fast and land a little hot. I have been warned about slow speeds at high angles of bank leading to stalls that occur with no warning. The nose drop and roll-off is dramatic and altitude is your only hope. I've seen my buddy, who is a very experienced r/c pilot, have his Focke Wulf fall out from under itself on low speed landings with the power on, once it landed hard enough to need the gear legs straightened. He has sped up is touchdown speed accordingly.
Tough and good looking, I hear stories of EZ's often from the local guys and all seem positive and nostalgic.
I know of no sources of new kits, except an occasional auction or for sale ad.
Chris...

They are available if you look around. My favourite is still the Mustang in olive drab. You can get them in Asia still, contact the following shops, they are very reliable:

Singapore Hobby Supplies - Singapore - [link=http://www.singahobby.com.sg/]Link[/link]

I had two in the late 80's: a Bud Light Laser 200 and the Dago Red. Crashed the Laser and got the Dago Red; they both were very pretty but somewhat fragile. The Dago Red had retracts, but the mounting was weak, and as I flew off grass, I tore them out a couple of times. As mentioned, they seemed somewhat heavy for their size and had a pretty high wing loading. If I remember correctly, my Laser was approx 55" span, flown with a piped supertiger .61, and weighed about 7 lbs. I just discovered some old photos of the Laser; I'll try to scan them and upload them here.

The older models were heavy, I remember my Laser 200, the 40 sized one, its heavy for today's standards. The P51 and Zero are nice and they fly well.

I think that one is the same as The World Models one. Fiberglass fuse, iron-on covered wings. I've been thinking of one of those as a replacement for my old Dago Red. I've heard these are screamers with a YS110

I remember reading some nut case on RCU who used something like a ST G2500 on a Voodoo ... Never saw the video of it flying but the engine bolted on right! Imagine a YS110 with a 13x12 prop, one of those F3A props and 30% nitro. That would be awesome.

Wow. Memories.
These came out in the early 80s and were really the first ARFs that were good enough to fly and use. (The Laniers were awful!)
My recollection is that they were distributed in the US by the same outfit out of Cal that handled the Pilot kits. I had three of them: Laser in the Leo Loudenslager (sp?) color scheme, Navy Blue w/ gold stripes and stars, Super Chipmunk in red white and blue scheme w/ mechanical retracts and a Pitts Speciasl also in red white and blue. The Laser and the Chipmunk were somewhetre around 55"- 60" wingspans, if I remember right. The Pitts was about 48". The Laser and Chipmunk flew great w/ Fox 46 in the Laser and K&B 61 in the Chipmunk. The Pitts w/ K&B 61 was a real squirrel. I flew it twice and then hung it up in the LHS for sale. Sold on a Tuesday and totalled on Saturday.
All in all, I think they were good airplanes. However, I never had to worry about trying to repair that printed foam/plastic covering or the internal structure. I have no idea how I'd have gone about that!

you are right! AWESOME!

Ez mustang + Ys110FZ is some what perfect match! (yeah! we pull off the Exhause on ys110 only run it with exhause tube!)

with 30% spull an apc 14x12! @10500 rpm yeah FAST and Loud!

we have Voodoo, dagored and dogored Rs running on that set up for now~

what you need to do is replace stock engine mount to a bigger one to let the ys110 sit nice.

btw hobbytech have no stock for Ez Arf kit anymore

Crikey a YS110 in a 55" EZ P51.... I hope the wings are screwed on tight. I saw a YS63FZ in a EZ P51 Reno racer.

My EZ militry P51 is powered with a OS 70 4 stroke, It seems a good combo. I used the 60 sized EZ retracts instead of the 40 sized, as the U/C wire is thicker, never had a problem with them pulling out on a short grass strip, I didnt strenghten the U/C mounts either. Pictures attached

I had an email from OK Model in Japan. They said there will be no more EZ kits manufactured [] a great shame.

A company in France has a few EZ kits, although at a huge cost..

Here's a couple pics of my Bud Light Laser from the late 80's, at the field I learned to fly at. Miss that field. It was a wide open, short, thin grass field in the middle of wheat strips. Perfect surface!

Thanks. There were very few stickers to add to the airframe on the military P51, nearly all the markings were factory finish.

Here's a video my freind took of it, not the best, but gives some idea.

I have a boxed EZ Zero 45 kit which I keep as buried treasure.... Sorry it's not for sale

At some point I will post a build thread, although there's not much building as we all know, so far I made a start on painting the pilot

nice collection you have!~ they are hell of great plane to fly around but i dun think you going to build any one of them~

Union Models

nice vids! we have the same plane flying around~ and thas is our favourite! it fly so nice as how it looks!
stickers on the fuse far more less job compare stickers on wings/wheel cover(the black and white !!![:@])~ i have done that hard job 3 times for my 3 ez p51d!

as for EZ zero fighter 45 ~ buddy of mine love them no time~ he just crashed his zero recently make him sad but we still have few more new in box waiting for him ~no worried dean~ you can have it from my collection if you finish up your side of Zero collection.(butter trade with your p51- with it![&:])

last

nice paint job with perfect colour matching for the pilot! i belive buddy of mine got an ideal from now~

Thanks.... the P51 flys great, although it will tip stall if slowed down to much, but you really have to force it to do this.

Yes you bring back memorys now of putting on the retracat servo stickers, and the tiny stickers on the fuselage. I sat patiently at the desk doing those stickers, I actualy like adding the sticker graphics..

What other boxed EZ kits do you have, can you post pictures for us to droole over
